Unified at Aspen Grove

On Saturday the youth of the Eagle Mountain 9th Ward had a Day of Unity at Aspen Grove. We met at my house at 8 am and hit the road for a long day and had everyone home by 9 pm. We had 16 youth attend. Shammie (YW pres) was it for YW leaders. For YM leaders we had Kevin, Michael and myself as well as all 3 members of the bishopric. Aaron had wanted to come, but was leaving for a week long business trip, and knew a day with his family was of greater importance this weekend. He was definitely missed, but was nice enough to lend me his camera and video camera to get lots of shots and footage (I may post video later). This is Huish Activity Center that hosted us for the day, but we had full use of the grounds too.

(Bishopric: Steve Hanks - 1st Counselor, Bishop Hunt, Regan Bolli - 2nd Counselor)

Upon arrival, we had free time to let everyone become familiar with the facilities. There were enough games to let everyone have a turn. We had more free time throughout the day too.

We played lots of group games/activities including Human Foosball, Missionary Tag, Kickball, Red Rover, and a name game.

They YM presidency took care of grilling the hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch. For dinner, the bishopric cooked the amazing chicken that Shammie had marinated and then Shammie and Annika took care of the rest of the meal.

As for spritual upliftment, Pres and Sis Hughes joined us for dinner and a fireside on friends and unity. The kids 14 and up worked on their youth conference video. They decided to focus on the Liahona. I think the end product will be very good. We also heard some talks by the youth on various standards from the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet.

I was vary impressed with how well our youth interacted and it seemed that all 16 of them were friends. There were combinations of one on one that I never would have imagined and it was nice to see what great people we have to work with. They will be amazing adults. It was an awesome day. We returned tired, uplifted and sunburned. Overall, it was a success. No injuries and everything flowed well.

What a great activity, Justin - looks like all had a fun time and what a super facility - Finishing it off with a spiritual focus is excellent! Your youth are blessed.

I am definitely jealous sounds like a great day! Mike said he had a blast! He was a little sore the next day but we were both so glad that he was able to go and get to know the Y.M. better.
