Friday night we want on our Fathers and Sons outing. I was so excited to go. I have not lived in a ward that has done one since being a Dad and Hyrum has been asking when this weekend was happening for the last few months, so we were both anxious for the event.
Hyrum was just thrilled to be there.
We went to Rock Canyon, which is up behind the Provo temple. To get there you have to go in from Provo Canyon, so it's quite a drive in, but well worth it. As you can see it was a very scenic spot. The weather was perfect.
We soon had the tent up. Aaron and I shared his, since it was plenty big to accommodate us and the boys.
The spot we had didn't have much for tent space, so we found a nearby field and called it home. Aaron dug a fire pit in the middle and Bishop, Paxman and Monsen went on the search for rocks and soon we had a great fire pit.
Look at these boys. Most all of them were between 3 and 6, what a group. Darren (age 14) felt a bit out of place as it was preschoolers and adults. I think we ended up with 25-30 people total. Regan Bolli became a favorite of the boys as he took them on a hike while we were getting things organized and set up.
Dutch oven was the means of cooking for the night. Aaron made some chili and cornbread that was awesome. Then Michael Monsen made 4 cobblers. We had blueberry, peach, apple and a chocolate cherry (special request from Steve Hanks). They took longer than expected, but well worth the wait.
While we were waiting, we got out marshmallows for the kids to roast. It was funny, as most of the kids were so excited to do this. Either it was their first time, or they had forgotten having done it before. It was fun to watch.
All slept well as we were able to enjoy the snoring from nearby tents. Here's Hyrum's wake up picture.
We gathered around a fire again in the morning and then got out muffins and juice for breakfast (keeping it nice and simple).
We then went on a short hike and saw some wildlife.
When we returned, it was time to break camp and head for home.
Aaron ended up having to drive the Steed's truck to bring firewood, so I had Jacob and Dallin with me and we stopped for a few pics of the valley on the way home.
All in all, it was an excellent trip. Rock Canyon was perfect, the weather was great, and the people were fun. Hopefully, this will now be an annual event for the EM 9th Ward.

Those are really good pictures. The winner is all those little fellows lined up. I'll bet they were some excited. What a wonderful experience. Tell Hyrum Grampy saw his pictures. I could almost taste that corn bread. Yum!
Dad
Mike said he had fun but wish he would of had a son there :) I just smiled and handed him our baby girl.
Tiffany, that's funny. It was fun having him there. I'm glad he listened to my invitation to come even without a son. Maybe we need to do a Daddy/Daughter campout so Mom's like you with all girls get a break too. : )
Maybe even just a date night! I guess I should just tell him that is the plan and scurry him out the door..... Yep I like that idea :)
