Death of FortiGuard

A few months ago, I was using the internet at work, but when I went to someone's blog it wouldn't load and said "Protected by FortiGuard." I soon found that it was blocking all kinds of websites I frequented, lots of news sites, blogs, forums, games, etc. Basically business sites worked and that was it.

I later found out the reason for all of this. We had some credit card fraud at one of our stores which resulted in an audit. The auditor required a tighter firewall and a strict filter that wouldn't allow anyone to go to sites that weren't fully protected. Since the stores' networks are centralized in my office it caused everyone company wide to have this great pleasure of FortiGuard.

Today, they created a separate network for the internet in our office with no filter. Terrific! Now I can access everyone's blogs without having to use a filter override that limits the number of pages I can see each day. I can also even post on my own blog at work, what a luxury.

I'm sure none of this seems like a big deal to anyone reading this, but to me this is almost life changing :) So get ready for more consistent blog communication from me. Today is a great day. Oh, and I can now go catch up on my ABC.com shows : )
