Dutch Oven Cookoff

Last night we had a Dutch Oven Cobbler Cookoff at James and Marcie Taylor's. It was the teachers and priests against the bishopric and YM leaders. They young men consisted of Josh, Dallen, Darren and Mark. For leaders we had Hunt, Hanks, Bolli, Ball, Monsen and myself. As you can see the Bishop is great at supervising : )

The young men did really well to organize what they were doing on their own. They were disappointed theirs didn't turn out so well, but it was edible. They made an apple one with fresh apples. The one the leaders (mostly the bishopric) did was phenomenal. We didn't have enough apple pie filling so we borrowed some apples from Mark to cut up, but it still wasn't enough, so Marcie donated some peaches to make the perfect combination of an apple peach cobbler. Too bad it didn't make more.

Afterwards, some played horseshoe for a bit as it started snowing. The temp was pretty cold. Aaron and Regan had to go home and get hats to cover their bald heads. Thank goodness for a nice hot fire. It seems that we keep getting pretty poor weather for our evening activities. Oh well, it's still fun.

Yum! Everything tastes good when it's cooked outdoors. I've eaten burned pancakes or overcooked macaroni cooked over an open fire and it all tasted heavenly! You are doing great in this calling, Justin. It doesn't seem so long ago that you were going to these kinds of activities as a youth. Time marches on! and on and on . . . :) Love you!

I'm not sure I agree that everything is great cooked outside, but it does have some character to it at least, which may add some type of value. In working with the youth, I sure am glad that I'm past that phase of life and in my current one. It seems that as time marches on, life just gets better and more fulfilling.

"...it started snowing..."!!! Man! When is that global warming going to kick in? I enjoy reading your blog Justin! (And I enjoy it even more from a tropical island--hee hee).
